The Importance of Properly Caring for your Sump Pump

Properly installing and caring for your sump pump is something that many homeowners tend to overlook, assuming that it is very unlikely that something will every go awry with their plumbing. For better or worse, there are several reasons why property holders should keep an eye on their pump, even if nothing seems immediately problematic. Residents are expected to follow the instructions listed on the note to schedule an inspection as soon as possible.
Public Works decided the inspection was necessary last month when they noticed that the amount of ground water and storm water entering sewers was far too high. If a system in need of draining does not receive the proper care, the resulting damages could cost the homeowner a great deal of money. As we continue through August, Public Works officials have also reminded citizens that it is against Sioux Falls law to discharge groundwater from sump pumps or other uncontaminated storm water to the sanitary sewer.
This preventative means of investigating whether or not homeowners are properly utilizing their sump pump for its intended purpose is just one additional reason why waiting until a problem makes itself known is extremely discouraged. If you are found to be in violation of this law due to negligence, you will automatically receive a fine from the City Code Enforcement Officer. Attempting to hide illegal procedures or prevent a Federal Works employee from doing their job will serve only to increase your fine if you are found guilty. In the end, it is easier and safer to use your sump pump properly and critically important that you give it regular maintenance.
